Choir
The Avondale College Choir participates in Auckland's annual Big Sing competition, as well as performing at a number of school events and concerts throughout the year.
New singers are always welcome. You don't have to be able to read music, but you do have to be able to sing in tune!

Choir 2010

The Avondale College Choir competed at the Auckland Regional BIG SING Competitions on Wednesday June 16th in the Auckland Town Hall. Over 50 choirs from Auckland and Northland came together for three days of competition. Each choir had to sing a NZ piece, a pre-20th century song and a choice of folk, pop, gospel, sacred or art music as their third piece.
Avondale College began with the joyous Gloria from Haydn's Little Organ Mass, followed by the beautiful contemporary sacred song Set Me As A Seal by NZ composer David Childs and accompanied by Mr Stenbo on the euphonium. We ended our programme with the gospel classic Get Happy. We were skillfully accompanied on the piano by Mr Bell.
The competition closed with the Gala Concert on the Wednesday night where we were asked to sing Set Me As A Seal again. At 52 singers, this is the largest group Avondale College has ever taken into the BIG SING and the students sang with wonderful enthusiasm, sensitivity and great choral discipline. They made their conductor very proud! We received some positive and very complimentary feedback from other choirs and their directors.
The choir sang at the Classical Concert last Thursday and will finish the term with a performance at assemblies on Monday.
